30 September – 28 October – The Future is Now / Memento Mori

Inspired by Brunel’s creativity, Artsite artists have responded to historical sites in central Swindon. The exhibition hopes to identify the gap between the past and present and energise our responsibilities towards our future.

This exhibition marks the beginning for me as a curator. The work displayed in this tiny white section of the building has evolved through the collaboration of myself with eight other artists.

Working here in this building has meant space to breathe and to be a part of Swindon’s history and developing future. How we connect with our surroundings is important to everyone. For artists and the cultivation of a rich cultural art community, taking ownership of neglected and forlorn buildings, once rich with life and energy is especially important.

Art has played a major part in the regeneration of towns and cities in England over the past twenty years. Swindon is at a crossroads, the past behind the future beckons. What can we do now as individuals to make that evolution not only exciting but right for it as a community?
