18 June – 30 July – Life’s a Beach (Open)
Swindon’s own Seaside
Life’s a Beach… and then you…
We didn’t know, when we devised our exhibition program, that this exhibition would be our last in the ArtSite Gallery. But time and tide wait for no man (or woman). The beach combings we found washed up on the high water mark of ArtSite’s past incarnation were from all points of the compass. A new feature for ArtSite was our beach hut installation, showing video art from a number of video & digital artists. The artwork presented covered life on the shoreline in all conditions of light and shade. Notable works included David Bent’s series of paintings and Lynette Thomas’ mermaid sculpture. A number of artists submitted work from other areas of the country and we feel that this event represented the best of ArtSite for our final exhibition at that location. ArtSite persued all avenues to secure a viable contemporary artist led gallery in the town centre and nearly a year later established The Post Modern.
