Emily Drake

Emily Drake is an artist, writer and musician currently living in Swindon. She graduated in 2005 with a Masters Degree in “Authorial Illustration” from Falmouth College of Art in Cornwall.  She has written and illustrated two books and has poetry with illustrations published in a book called “The Speckled Egg” (Atlantic Press).

Emily started her art training at Swindon College of Art and Design (then in Euclid Street) in 1995. She then went on to train as a Graphic Designer: specialising in illustration at the “University of Plymouth” in Exeter. During that time, she also began to successfully exhibit her paintings. She continued to exhibit during her M.A and has had solo shows in many venues including St. Ives Cornwall. She paints mainly in acrylic and often incorporates collage and the written word into her work which has a strong autobiographical theme. Emily will often mix real memories with imagined ones in and enjoys editing and re-editing her past in order to makes sense of an image. “Some of these things happened and some were dreams. They are all true as I understand truth. They are all real as I understand reality”
